SquareTrade © AP6.0Gorgeous, very rare museum size: HUGE 5.75 CT blue/purple Tanzanite substitute ring, utterly fashion forward with its fancy-cut barrel-cut roll-top genuine, natural Iolite gemstone and Euro shank! The unusual, contemporary modern designer ring features a lovely central BLUE/VIOLET Iolite (tending somewhat more toward the PURPLE spectrum in normal light) with even, rich color saturation, very strong pleochroism, and some tertiary clear flashes typical of good Iolite. The beautiful 9x14mm fancy roll-top barrel cut Iolite (5.75 carat weight) is held nicely aloft in a 4-prong unique contemporary setting fashioned from durable solid 10 karat white gold. An extra 2mm round-cut tiny Iolite is bezel set beneath the central gemstone on each side of the ring, and 10 round-cut White Diamonds are bead-set on the substantial, highly polished white gold shanks. The ring has an elite Euro-shank comfort fit (squared off with heavier gold at the bottom), which keeps the ring from sliding around on your finger. This very large 5.75 carat genuine Iolite gemstone is a very large rare size, as most Iolites are seldom found over 3 to 4 carats in size.
Although not a member of the sapphire family, some refer to the lovely Iolite as a "water sapphire". Vikings used Iolite for navigation at sea, holding a thin Iolite slice up to the sun for viewing. Iolite is strongly pleochroic, meaning the gemstone shows different colors from different viewing angles (in the purple/blueish spectrum). The gemstone's X-axis often shows clear, the Y-axis dark violet, and the Z-axis blue. Iolite gets its name from the Greek word for violet, and like that flower, its cool shades can range from blue to violet.
Many people use Iolite as a much less expensive Tanzanite substitute (Tanzanite being another gemstone showing such marked pleochroism) for those who prefer, but can't afford, the darker shades of Tanzanite. Other people mix and match their Iolites with their Tanzanites, too.
This particular ring displays an absolutely outstanding example of the above-described pleochroism, with the 3 photos each showing a different color/shade on each different axis (X-clear, Y-dark violet, Z-blue). This gemstone is exceptionally clean and very well cut, with intense pleochroism. An absolutely stunning ring, for the discerning woman who embraces the "one of a kind" unique designer styles in her jewelery choices.
All gemstone weights and sizes are approximate minimums. NOTE: This ring is a size 7, and is not sizable due to the design of the Euro-shank band. If you need a smaller ring we have ring guard inserts available at no cost. Shipped in an attractive presentation case. Only one left!
